The Man of My Dreams

It’s the age-old tale about the perfect man. The one who swept you off your feet.

He seemed perfect in every way (or maybe not in every way, maybe there was an inkling in the back of your mind that something seemed off but you were too wrapped up in the fairy tale to pay attention to the whispers of your instincts). He was perfect. So you married him. You became tied down: emotionally, financially, biologically. It was exactly what he wanted. It was what you thought you wanted, until it wasn't. He was the man of your dreams until he was the man of your nightmares.

Of course he doesn’t have to be a man. You don’t have to be a woman. It could happen to anyone at any time. Dreams don’t differentiate between race or religion. They don’t care if you’re straight or gay, transexual or fluid. This dream only wants you – all of you. It wants to absorb you, until there is no semblance of the person you used to be. Until one bright, blinding morning when you wake to realize you have no idea who you are, where you have been, or for how long.

This was me, this is me. I don’t know if you ever fully wake from this dream. What I do know, is that the dreamer I am now, is thankful for that man. Thankful for the nightmare. Thankful for the journey I have been on and continue through.

My hope is that my inaugural post will inspire you to help me create a community of like minded individuals looking to be their own dreamers. To break free of anything they feel has held them back. People looking to find inspiration and joy within themselves.
